ST. HENRY — Dolores and Doris Bruggeman, of St. Henry, will celebrate their 90th birthday at an open house on Sunday, March 1, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Maria Stein American Legion, 8140 State Route 119, Maria Stein.
They request that gifts be omitted. They would welcome cards.
Dolores and Doris, identical twin sisters, were born on March 4, 1930, in Tipp City, to August and Mary Barhorst. Dolores married Werner Bruggeman and Doris married Werner’s identical twin brother, Virgil Bruggeman, in a double ceremony on April 18, 1951. Both Virgil and Werner are deceased.
Dolores has 11 children, 44 grandchildren, and 63 great-grandchildren. Doris has eight children, 28 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Both Dolores and Doris’ first two children were born on the same day in the same year.
Both Dolores and Doris are members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Maria Stein.
Shortly after their birth, the Barhorst family moved to McCartyville, where Dolores and Doris resided until their marriage to the Bruggeman twins. They constructed identical homes in Maria Stein, and furnished them alike, as well. They resided in Maria Stein until 2017, when they moved to the Gardens of St. Henry Assisted Living, where they share a suite. There have been few days in their lives where they haven’t seen each other, and have been close their whole lives.
Cards can be sent to Dolores and Doris at 522 Western Ave., St. Henry, OH 45883.
