Gaier to lead 2022 United Way Campaign

SIDNEY — Scott Barr, Shelby County United Way president and CEO, has announced the 2022 Campaign Chair will be Duane Gaier.

“Duane is a great community leader that has served on many community boards, including the Shelby County United Way. He understands the important role and impact we have in the community, as well as the many organizations we fund. He will be a great leader for the 2022 campaign,” said Barr.

Gaier has been with the city of Sidney since 1999 and in his current role as director of parks and recreation since 2008. He is a former Board president of the Shelby County United Way and was the Large Manufacturing chair during the 2021 Campaign. During his time with the United Way, he led the Caring for People in Crisis and the Enriching Lives of Seniors allocations committees for several years. He is a past Rotary Club of Sidney president, Sidney-Shelby County YMCA board member and the current chair of the Great Miami Riverway.

“I am humbled and eager to be able to lead the Shelby County United Way Campaign this year. Having sat on the board and participating for several years in the allocations process for the agencies receiving United Way funding, I witnessed the needs in the community, the giving of those from within the community during the campaign and the prudent administration of the funds that the donors entrusted with the Shelby County United Way. These decisions are not made lightly; it’s only after a thorough screening process that an agency’s financial support is approved. The programs and agencies supported by this campaign truly make a difference in Shelby County, and the numbers of those served throughout all of the county, validates this. From the implementation and on-going support of Imagination Library and supporting child care at the YMCA to assisting the domestic violence victims and survivors at New Choices along with providing operating assistance to the Sidney-Shelby County Senior Center, your contribution is needed to assist your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors. “

Shelby County United Way is celebrating 65 years of serving the community. The 2022 campaign theme is United for Impact. The campaign will kick off on Sept. 8.
