Pair indicted for abuse of corpse

SIDNEY – Two people were indicted with abuse of a corpse involving the death of a Piqua woman during the June 15 meeting of the Shelby County grand jury.

Danel S. King, 51, of Sidney and currently in the Miami County Jail, was indicted on one count of abuse of a corpse, a fifth degree felony, for disposing of a corpse of an adult female victim by throwing the corpse down an embankment into a wooded area.

Julie A. Jenkins, 43, of Piqua and currently in the Shelby County Jail, was indicted on one count of complicity to abuse a corpse, a fifth degree felony, for aiding and abetting another to throw a corpse of an adult female victim down an embankment into a wooded area.

The body of Charlenea O’Neal, 40, of Piqua, was found in a wooded area outside Port Jefferson on May 17. She had been reported missing on May 7. During the initial investigation into O’Neal’s disappearance, Piqua police made two arrests. Jenkins was arrested and charged with possession of drugs, a third-degree felony and obstruction of an investigation, a fifth degree felony. Also arrested was King who is facing charges of possession of drugs and obstruction. Jenkins and King are both currently homeless.

Hiram E. Roberts, II, 25, currently in the Shelby County Jail, was indicted on one count of failure to comply with order or signal of officer, a third degree felony, for willfully eluding or fleeing a police officer, and operating his vehicle in a manner which caused risk of physical harm.

On June 12, Sidney Police attempted to stop Roberts when he was observed going 51 mph in the 1000 block of North Main Avenue. He traveled out of Sidney into the county where he let a female passenger out of the vehicle. Roberts then drove the vehicle through a field and over a fence. Roberts stopped the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene.

Officers from Sidney Police, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol were on the scene. A perimeter was set up and a K-9 unit was called in from Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. As the K-9 began to track, Roberts stood up in the woods and surrendered to police.

Chiane A. Sowders, 28, at large, was indicated on one count of failure to provide change of address, a fourth degree felony, for failing to notify the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office of a change of address, having previously been convicted of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Justin O. Orsborne, 42, currently in the Shelby County Jail, was indicted on one count of domestic violence, a third degree felony, for causing physical harm to a female victim after a previous conviction of domestic violence and a conviction of attempted assault.

Phillip E. Schmidt, 49, currently at large, was indicted on one count of theft, a fifth degree felony, for stealing a trailer, where the value of the property is more than $1000 and less than $7500.

Logan M. Perkins, 26, currently in the Shelby County Jail, was indicated on one count possession of drugs, a third degree felony, and one count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth degree felony, for cocaine and baggies used for storing, transporting and abusing cocaine.

Roger D. Napier, 63, of Springboro, was indicted on two counts of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth degree felony, for methamphetamine and Bromozolam, and one count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth degree felony, for baggies for storing, transporting and abusing methamphetamine.

Indicted on May 25, Greg Johnson, 34, of Sidney, for three counts of trafficking in drugs, a fifth degree felony, one count of aggravated trafficking in drugs, a fourth degree felony, one count of aggravated trafficking in drugs, a third degree felony, one count of trafficking in drugs, a third degree felony, and one count of possessing criminal tools, a fifth degree felony, for Fentanyl and methamphetamine, knowingly transporting methamphetamine and Fentanyl for sale, and possession of baggies and a digital scale used for storing, transporting and abusing Fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Indicted on May 25, Luke Daniel Ames, 23, currently in the Shelby County Jail, on one count of failure to comply with order or signal of an officer, a third degree felony, for fleeing from a law enforcement officer’s signal to stop his vehicle, and traveling at excessive speeds and weaving through traffic.
