SIDNEY – Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY) of Sidney, a nonprofit foster care agency, is seeking donations of school supplies for local foster youth for next school year until July 28.

The following school supplies are needed and should be new, not used:

• Backpacks;

• Crayons, markers, colored pencils, pens, pencils and erasers;

• Scissors;

• Glue;

• Notebooks and loose-leaf paper;

• Binders and tabs;

• Rulers;

• Calculators;

• Tissues and Clorox wipes.

According to SAFY Lead Foster Parent Recruiter Sylvia Roop, the items most needed are notebooks, binders, tissues and Clorox wipes. Drop-off bins are located at the SAFY office at 1065 Fairington Drive, Sidney, and at F&M Bank at 101 E. Court St., Sidney.

As for the July 28 deadline, Roop said, “We give our foster youth supplies all throughout the year for those who move to a different school district or even if they just need a fresh new set of supplies. So we will gladly accept any school supply donations after that date.”

“It is so important for the youth we serve to feel confident when heading back to school. The special part about this though is I let all the youth know that these supplies came from community members,” Roop continued. “The true impact of letting these kids know that there are people out there who care and want to see them succeed! This opportunity gives the community a chance to make a difference in a youth’s life!”
