Civil War program set

ST. MARYS — The Auglaize County Historical Society presents “Auglaize County on the Cusp of the Civil War” on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the St. Marys Community Public Library, Chestnut Street. The event is free and open to the public.

Join Auglaize County Historical Society director Rachel Barber as she shares information and images about what the county was like c. 1860, as the nation marched toward civil war. The event is presented in support of Long Journey Home, a production based upon the Civil War letters of St. Marys native Charles Kruse (Aug. 19-20 at the St. Marys Theater).

The Auglaize County Historical Society’s limited edition St. Marys Bicentennial Playing Cards have arrived. The Historical Society has organized this project to honor the 200th anniversary in a unique and memorable way, with images from St. Marys throughout history. The decks are available for sale ($10 per deck) at Minster Bank (St. Marys), the St. Marys Chamber of Commerce, and the Miami & Erie Trading Company Ltd. (also in St. Marys, on West Spring Street). The Historical Society sincerely thanks ACHS volunteer and former trustee Sandy Hunter, who was pivotal in the development of this deck of cards.
