2 vie for Cynthian Township trustee seat

Laux

SIDNEY — Two candidates are seeking office as a Cynthian Township Trustee.

Thomas S. Laux, 43, of Fort Loramie, is facing off against incumbent Vernon J. Ahrns, 68, of Fort Loramie.

Laux is not currently a trustee. He works at Weigandt Development as a project manager and has two children and two grandchildren.

Ahrns has been a trustee for four years. He is retired from Clopay and is currently a full-time farmer. He and his wife, Amy, have four children and one grandchild.

Why are you running for office?

Laux: “I have not had the opportunity to serve the community in an official manner. I feel that with my construction and maintenance experience along with my people skills I would be a good fit for the job.”

Ahrns: “I enjoy helping others, and I hope to help our community by serving through this office position. It is important to care for the place we call home. I will help make a safe place for everyone to travel on our roads during the winter months and ensure our roads remain a safe place for everyone throughout the year.”

What do you hope to accomplish if you are elected?

Ahrns: “I hope to repair more roads and maintain safe road conditions. I hope to help build the community stronger through providing the care and maintenance needed.”

Laux: “I would hope to keep Cynthian Township moving forward in the future. This would involve addressing any concerns the residents may have front and center in order to accomplish solutions that make sense for everyone involved.”

What do you feel needs to be done to make your township be more successful?

Ahrns: “I feel we could become more successful through direct contact with the community to hear what the true needs are within our town. Communication and personal interaction will help us know what is happening in the community and how we can help.”

If elected, how will you open the lines of communication between yourself and the people you represent?

Ahrns: “I will be present at our team meetings and make myself available for anyone who needs my assistance.”

What challenges do you feel your township faces today and in the future?

Laux: “One of the biggest challenges of the township, just like in any business today, is getting a project done as efficiently as possible. Due to inflation, the job market, and other variables, it is always tough to get a quality job done without spending more money than was intended.”

Ahrns: “One challenge we all face today is inflation. We will see the effects of this in our daily lives, but one day at a time we will persevere and remain a strong community.”

Additional comments?

Ahrns: “Thank you for considering me this election. I am an honest and hardworking man who can be trusted to care for the best interest of others. My self-employment allows great flexibility to be available to the community to serve in the ways necessary. I am an active volunteer who helps prepare and conclude our community elections. My involvement in the community has prepared me to better serve you. Please vote for Vernon Ahrns!”

Laux: “In closing, I feel that with my work experience and good communication skills I would be able to help the community navigate through whatever issues may come along. There is always more than one way to accomplish a task. Figuring out the best or most efficient way, that satisfies all involved, is the challenge.”
