SIDNEY — A Shelby County deputy has been placed on administrative leave.

According to Shelby County Sheriff Jim Frye, on Nov. 6, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of an incident involving one of their deputies by the Sidney Police Department.

A female subject filed a police report alleging Deputy Thomas Jackson Frantz had assaulted her early Sunday morning. Upon interviewing the victim and additional witnesses, Frantz was served a complaint charging him with domestic violence.

Frantz was arrested and incarcerated in the Auglaize County Jail until his court hearing in the Sidney Municipal Court on Nov. 7. The judge issued a $2,500 bond which was paid by his family.

Frantz has been an employee of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office since January of 2019. He was promoted to deputy in September 2022.

“During his employment Frantz has been an exceptional employee and has served as a corrections officer, deputy assigned to the hospital and his current duties as assistant deputy dog warden,” Frye said. “As an office I will continue to be transparent and always straightforward to incidents of misbehavior. As deputy sheriffs we are held to a higher standard and always accountable for our actions.”

“As with any situation like this, all citizens are innocent until proven guilty. As sheriff I take these incidents very seriously, with that in mind, Deputy Frantz has been relieved of duties and placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case,” Frye concluded.
