JACKSON CENTER — Officers were elected during the organizational meeting Monday, Jan. 15, for the Jackson Center Local Schools Board of Education.

Brad Wren was reelected president of the board. Kristen Davis was elected vice president.

The board will meet the third Monday of each month in 2024 at 7 p.m. in the central office conference room.

In other organizational meeting matters, the board:

• Authorized the treasurer to make advance withdrawals, invest inactive funds, pay bills as received and borrow funds as needed to meet obligations.

• Appointed the superintendent as the district purchasing agent.

• Appointed the treasurer as the Title IX compliance officer.

• Appointed the treasurer as the board appointed designee for public records matters.

• Approved a motion to keep the business travel mileage reimbursement at 50 cents per mile.

• Authorized the superintendent to approve professional meetings.

• Authorized the superintendent to accept resignations and hire employees between board meetings.

• Appointed board member Davis to join the board president and treasurer on the finance committee.
During the regular meeting, the board received an update from maintenance supervisor Ted Rostorfer on the progress of the multipurpose building being constructed on Hamer Street. Activity was slowed due to the cold weather. The newest bus is waiting on a new transmission that is under warranty and a second bus is also receiving maintenance.
The board went into executive session to discuss personnel.

Superintendent Bill Reichert updated the board on the activities associated with the upcoming eclipse, including the pan to not move the ate of the alumni tournament.

Grades 6-12 Principal Jeff Reese updated the board on planning taking place for next year’s schedule, an eighth-grade national science test being taken on Feb. 14, and plans for a volunteer science fair in late January. Prek-5 Principal Ginger Heuker provided third-grade fall ELA test scores from those schools who would provide them, summarized the Write to Read Week activities and noted the second round of dental outreach will be in late February.

In other business, the board:

• Renewed the Ohio High School Athletic Association membership for the 2024 year.

• Approved updates to the Jackson Center School Board Policy Manual.

• Authorized the Ohio School Boards Association to review all policies needing updated as a result of House Bill 33, the budget bill. The OSBA is putting together a summary for districts to make that transition easier.

• Approved the treasurer’s finance report.

The board’s next meeting will be Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
