Off to the races: Fort Loramie girls, Russia boys win Shelby County Preview

SIDNEY — Cross country season is finally off to the races with the Shelby County Cross Country Preview meet taking place at Sidney high school on Tuesday in a two-mile race.

In the high school girls race, Fort Loramie easily took first place as a team with a total placement score of 19. It claimed the top three places in the race and had six runners place in the top 10.

Fort Loramie’s top times in order were Lauren Moore (12:51), Ariel Heitkamp (12:52.4), Harley Eilerman (12:59.6), Liza Poppelman (13:14.5) and Carly Holthaus (13:14.6).

The Botkins Trojans took second place in the event with their team score of 43.

The Trojans were led by Bella Bucio (13:07.9), Brylie Greve (13:08.7), Grace Gutman (13:17.4), Amelia Greve (13:33.5) and Addison Blindauer (13:51.8).

The Russia Raiders finished in third with their score of 98 and were led by Faith York (13:41.6), Madison Schulte (14:54.4), Grace Caldwell (14:47.1), Maci Armstrong (15:30.1) and Sayer Magoto (15:31.8).

In fourth place were the Lehman Catholic Cavaliers with a score of 119.

Their top times were Margaret Schmiesing (14.21.4), Ava Reineke (15:17.6), Madelyn Nelson (15:46.7), Anna Minneci (15:46.8) and Julia Gudorf (15:47.8).

The Anna Rockets rounded out the top five with a 120. Top runners for the Rockets were Serenity Williamson (13:26), Melanie Kranenburg (15.01.7), Sheridan Williamson (15:04.2), Mae Beckman (16:21.8) and Lydia Vasko (16:27.7).

Houston placed sixth with a score of 152. Its top runners were Ava Mowery (13:38.3), Mekayla Pleiman (15.55.4), Gabriella Harding (16.16.7), Kaelyn Richardson (18:08.2) and Elizabeth Fogt (18:50.4).

The Sidney Yellow Jackets also competed but did not have enough runners for a team score. Their top runner was Kara Kellner (14.52.2).

Fairlawn also didn’t have enough runners for a team score but its fastest runner, Nevaeh Burt took 26th place overall with a 15:12.9.

In the boys race, Russia took first place with a score of 40, narrowly edging out Botkins’ 43.

The Raiders top runners were Jacob Schmidtmeyer (10:22.8), Samuel Phlipot (10:27.8), Quinn Hoying (10:54.8), Evan Smith (10:57.1) and Eli Schmidtmeyer (11:03.3).

The Trojans top runners were Collin Doseck (10:17.4), Carson Brown (10:19.6), Lucas Arnold (10:49.3), Ryan Koenig (11:04.9) and Wesley Manger (11:28.6).

The Anna Rockets took third place with an 80. Their fastest were Blake Bixler (10:29), Titus Young (10:38), Kyle Edelmann (11:18.8), Gerran Nottage (11:29.4) and Tyler Maurer (11:43.4).

Fort Loramie finished in fourth place with a 95 and was led by Dj Barhorst (10:54.7), Ethan Koester (11:23.5), Isaac Holthaus (11:27), Xavier Moore (11:31.5) and Sean Bornhorst (11:40.4).

Lehman Catholic took fifth place with its score of 143.

Its top runners were Brian Baumann (11:06.7), Alex Goubeaux (11:36.7), Ethan Taylor (11:39.8), Thaddeus Bezy (12:10.8) and Leopold Schmiesing (13:01.4).

Jackson Center finished just behind the Cavaliers with its team score of 148 and was led by Owen Willoby (10:49.5), Sean Wren (11:43.4), Braylon Elmore (11:51.5), Eli Prenger (12.01.5) and Brayden Nation (13:00.4).

Houston took seventh place with a 191. Its fastest runners were Dakari Crawford (11:42.4), Dylan Shaffer (12.22.7), Weston Hoover (12.25.3), Konner Pleiman (12.39) and Hudson Mowery (13.11.7).

The Sidney Yellow Jackets rounded out the leaderboard in eighth place with a score of 197. Their top runners were Simon Blackford (11:05.4), Anderson Blackford (12:56.4), Dakota Porter (13:48.8), Marlon Tucker (13:59.5) and Ashton Krabill (14:03.7).

Fairlawn didn’t have enough runners for a team score but its top runner, CJ Lessing finished 11th overall with a time of 10:55.6.
