MINSTER — Fort Loramie is off to strong start and is hoping it’s a good sign for the rest of the season.

The squad took down the rival Minster Wildcats in three sets 25-9, 25-11 and 25-16 on Tuesday at Minster Elementary School.

“I think we did a lot of really good things out here tonight,” Fort Loramie head coach John Rodgers said. “We maintained our pace and speed. That’s something we wanted to accomplish tonight.”

Jenna Barnhorst finished with 31 assists which nearly doubled the Wildcats’ team total of 16. Kill leaders for Fort Loramie were Avery Brandewie (13), Victoria Mescher (9) and Deanna Rodeheffer (6) who also had three aces.

Barhorst surpassed 2,000 career assists in the squad’s season opener on Saturday.

Fort Loramie took control at the start of the game and never let its foot off the gas, only allowing Minster to hold small leads for just a few serves at a time.

“We’ve got to get better at blocking right now,” Rodgers said. “We were really good at it for a while in preseason. Possibly we’re thinking too much. But outside of that we came in and did what we wanted to tonight.”
