Man caught in Perry Township after car, foot chase

A Dayton man was caught in Perry Township on Friday afternoon after fleeing in his car and continuing on foot after an accident.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Jesse James Wright, 22, was the driver of a car who was apprehended after fleeing. He was transporting a passenger who was wanted for a felony offense.

Deputies were assisting local probation officers in apprehending the individual wanted for a felony. The person was seen getting into the passenger seat of a Chevy Trax, which deputies stopped a little after 2:20 p.m. on Friday. During the stop, deputies discovered the vehicle was reported stolen in Troy earlier in the day.

When a deputy got out of his cruiser, the Chevy Trax fled, and deputies pursued. The Trax was West bound on Dingman Slagle Road and turned North on Pasco Montra Road. When turning, the Trax slid into a Jeep Compass that was stopped at the intersection.

The Trax became disabled after hitting the Jeep, and Wright was seen fleeing on foot into nearby woods and cornfield. The passenger was apprehended for the probation warrant.

A search for Wright was conducted with assistance from Sidney Police officers, who used a drone. The Shelby County Sheriff’s K-9 team of deputy Frank Bleigh and Bandit tracked where Wright had run to. Bandit tracked Wright, and he was apprehended.

Wright was incarcerated for fleeing and will face additional charges later. He also had an outstanding arrest warrant from another county.

The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to Sidney Police, Perry Port Salem Rescue and Port Jefferson Fire Department for assisting deputies. Perry Port Salem Rescue checked the driver of the Jeep after the wreck and checked the passenger of the Chevy who was wanted.
