ANNA — The Anna Rockets fell to the Minster Wildcats 41-14 in a Midwest Athletic Conference game on Friday at Booster Field.

It was the first loss for Anna, which had dominated in its first two games.

“That team averages 400 yards and 40 points a game,” Wildcats head coach Seth Whiting said. “We held them to 14 points. We have a great coaching staff, they coach every day at a really high level and they expect and demand execution.”

The Rockets (2-1, 0-1) defense turned cold like the weather after holding Minster (3-0, 1-0) to a scoreless first quarter.

Anna let up three touchdowns in the second quarter, first two rushing scores by quarterback Brogan Stephey and then a 10 yard run from Connor Schmiesing.

“Brogan’s the first topic of conversation for everybody,” Whiting said. “He’s so talented and it’s well deserved. He’s smart and he does everything the right way, we love it for him.”

The Rockets had the game tied 7-7 early in the second quarter when Zach Osborn scored on a seven yard run.

The Wildcats led 21-7 going into the half.

Anna looked to start the second half with a score, but its hopes were dashed when Minster’s Kole Richard sacked quarterback Alex Shappie, forcing the Rockets to punt.

The Wildcats capitalized on the following possession with a 55-yard touchdown run from Stephey. They followed that up just six minutes later with a short touchdown run by Schmiesing to extend the lead to 34-7.

Anna got back on the board late in the third when Osborn scored his second touchdown of the night on a breakaway 33 yard run to cut the lead to 20 with 1:59 to play in the third quarter.

“It was very tough,” Whiting said on bringing down Osborn. “We struggled a little bit with tackling. I think we’d have been a little better served just coming straight downhill. We tried to stay up and grab cloth instead of just taking the edge and being done.”

The Rockets were unable to get the offense moving in the fourth, as their defense gave up another touchdown to Dominick Meyer for the final score of 41-14.

Minster is back on the field next Friday at home where they take on Parkway at 7 p.m.

Anna will travel to Coldwater next Friday for its next game at 7 p.m.
