SIDNEY – The Lehman Catholic Cavaliers win 21-7 over Benjamin Logan Friday at 30-0 field in Sidney.

Ben Logan got on the board first with a 54-yard rush from its quarterback, which, following a successful PAT, gave it a 7-0 lead.

“The first possession really kind of shook us up,” Lehman head coach Dwane Rowley said. “We challenged them at halftime to come out, win the half, and take every play. This is probably the best defensive game we’ve played all year.”

The Cavaliers (2-1, 0-0) swiftly responded with a 67-yard touchdown reception by Evan O’Leary to knot the game up 7-7 with just under 10 minutes to play in the first.

Lehman was able to stop Ben Logan in the following drive and went on to take a 13-7 lead on a 28-yard reception by Da’Ron Pride from quarterback Turner Lachey. Ben Logan blocked the PAT, but the Cavaliers took their lead into the second quarter.

A hit on Cj Olding who signaled a fair catch on a punt put Lehman on their own 30 to start a drive with 4:55 to play in the half. However, the Cavaliers’ offense was unable to make anything happen culminating in a fumble on a punt to put the Raiders in the red zone to start their drive.

Ben Logan looked primed to score but fell short as its quarterback tripped with an opening in front of him on the two-yard line. This gave Lehman the ball with less than two to play in the half.

The Cavaliers took a 13-7 lead into halftime.

After some very odd, offsetting penalties on two separate occasions on the same Raiders drive, Connor Schmiesing forced a fumble to give Lehman the ball on Ben Logan’s 44 yard line.

The Cavaliers were unable to capitalize on the turnover, even after being gifted a new set of downs from an encroachment penalty, they fumbled the ball back to the Raiders with just under four minutes to play in the third.

Lehman’s defense yet again stepped up, forcing a punt and starting their drive on their own 45.

After a run from Pride put the ball in Ben Logan territory, Lachey threw a deep pass that was snagged by Olding in the endzone. A two-point conversion caught by Schmiesing gave the Cavaliers a 21-7 lead with a minute left in the third.

“Cj has finally stepped into his own,” Rowley said. “He’s made big defensive stops playing physical from the corner position, not to mention he’s a weapon to us on the offensive side.”

Both teams traded drives before Ben Logan came up short on fourth down, giving Lehman the ball with 8:11 to play in the game. The Cavaliers followed this up with a big 60-yard gain by O’Leary to put them in Raiders territory.

A big hit to Lachey forced a turnover on downs with 6:22 left to play and Ben Logan down 14 points.

In another turn of events, Olding made another play, a spectacular interception to give Lehman the ball with 5:34 to play.

Nearly in the red zone, the Cavaliers had yet another fumble to give the Raiders the ball on their own 19 with 2:09 to play.

Ben Logan was unable to make anything happen and had to punt, giving Lehman the ball and allowing it to secure the 21-7 victory.

“We really handled adversity,” Rowley said. “We dialed in, locked in and really stepped up. Two big wins going into our conference, we’re going to ride the momentum and keep prepping.”

The Cavaliers kick off their Three Rivers Conference schedule next Friday when they travel to take on Milton-Union at 7 p.m.
