JACKSON CENTER — Sherri Herring has been styling clients’ hair for over four decades and is the owner of Heads Up Hair and Tanning Salon.

When Herring graduated high school, she was unsure what she wanted to do with her life. All she knew was she enjoyed cutting and styling people’s hair to make them feel good.

This led to her decision to go to the Ohio State Beauty Academy in Lima. While being a student, a woman named Becky Lotz contacted the school looking for some employees to work in her salon located where Mama Js is today.

She decided this would be a smart career move and jumped at the opportunity. Even after she graduated in 1982, she kept on working there, slowly absorbing the business from Lotz, who eventually left in 1987.

Today, the salon is located across the hall from Farmers and Merchants Bank. Herring said she is a jack of all trades when it comes to hair. She does styling, perms and color. She even branched out to include tanning and facial waxing services.

Waxing costs $10 a session. Tanning service pricing are for a single 20-minute visit is $4, for 160 minutes is $24, for 240 minutes is $36, and for 320 minutes is $48.

For hair services, prices vary depending on what a client wants. To schedule any services, interested clients can make appointments at 937-596-6340.

Herring opens at 7:30 a.m. and stays open until all clients are fabulous. Walk-ins are accepted if there is time for them, which is why making an appointment is important.
