SIDNEY – Sidney girls soccer coach Coach Kevin Veroneau notched 100th win with the team as Yellow Jackets cruised to a 6-0 win over Fairborn in a Miami Valley League matchup at Sidney high school on Wednesday.

“I’ve coached some of these girls since they were 10,” Veroneau said. “It’s good to see them have success. We had success at the youth level and they’ve continued that at the high school level.”

Sidney (7-3-0, 4-0-0) now holds a commanding lead over the MVL with the next closest team being Xenia (3-2-1, 1-1-1).

Of the six goals the Yellow Jackets scored, four of them came in the first half and all of those were scored by senior Larkyn Vordemark.

Vordemark was assisted in her goals by Hayden McVety and Kenzi Koester and scored two of them herself.

In the second half Sidney added two more goals to its total. This time by Katie McKinney and Briana Lewis.

“I said, we can utilize this time to actually get better at one of our weaknesses,” Veroneau said about his team’s approach in the second half. “It was more of a training workshop for us.”

This is the Yellow Jackets second win in a row following their 4-0 loss to Chaminade Julienne on Sept. 5.

“We’ve moved players around just to try and not give up those long range shots,” Veroneau said. “Hopefully this new mix with them actually mixing up how they attack, makes us less predictable and other teams won’t be able to stop us as easily.”

Sidney takes on Fairmont on Saturday at Fairmont at 11:30 a.m. before battling MVL rival Xenia at home on Monday at 7:15 p.m.

Lehman Catholic drops second straight

The Lehman Catholic Cavaliers fell to Bethel 5-2 in a Three Rivers Conference matchup on Wednesday.

The Cavaliers (3-6-0, 1-2-0) are in third place in the TRC.

Lehman has only managed to score four goals in its four games so far in September.

The Cavaliers play the Greenview Rams at Greenview high school on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
