Sidney police arrest juvenile for threats

SIDNEY The Sidney Police Department arrested a 15-year-old female who published a shooting threat on Instagram on Wednesday.

According to a press release from the department, police received information on Wednesday about an Instagram post discussing a shooting to take place at Sidney Middle School on Thursday.

Sidney Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI immediately coordinated efforts to investigate the threats.

A suspect was identified, located, and taken into custody through a joint investigation. The 15-year-old juvenile female suspect has been charged with Inducing Panic, a second-degree felony, and was transported to the West Central Detention Center in Troy.

Through the investigation results, all three law enforcement agencies believe there are no other subjects involved nor additional threats made against the Sidney City Schools related to this incident.

The Sidney Police Department, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and FBI treat every threat as credible. All investigative measures have been taken to ensure the safety of our citizens.

The Sidney Police Department and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office will provide additional security and patrols of our local schools for the remainder of this week.
