A Sidney landmark faces an uncertain future as a foreclosure lawsuit and a bankruptcy petition work their way through court systems. Bonnyconnellan Castle, 105 N. Walnut Ave., is one of two proper- ties involved in a foreclosure action in Shelby County Common Pleas Court. The Ohio Bank, formerly American Community Bank of Lima, filed the complaint last year against Dean Shepherd and Kimberly Shepherd, seeking $217,154 on a mortgage involving the castle and $42,022 on a business loan involving property at 112 Oak Ave. The Shepherds bought the castle in 1996 and later started a bed-and- breakfast operation there. Judge John D. Schmitt has ordered both properties sold at public auction. A sale date has not been set. The foreclosure action has been delayed because of petitions the Shepherds filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Dayton. When such petitions are filed, actions in local court cases typically are suspended.
