Students attend Career Exploration Academy

The ninth annual Career Exploration Academy was held last Thursday and Friday at the Shelby County Fairgrounds.

The event, which is organized by Workforce Partnership of Shelby County and sponsored by the Shelby County Untied Way, drew about 950 students between grades eight and 12. Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted was a special guest last Friday.

Students from every Shelby County school district attended, as well as students from Riverside.

Students were assigned personalized schedules that included five different companies and career topics. The purpose of the event is to provide local career exploration via a career fair atmosphere that includes hands-on learning.

Career booth topics included: Engineering, Business Administration, CNC Machinist, Electrician, Equipment Service Tech, Nurse, Athletic Trainer, Finance, Manufacturing, Mechanic, HVAC Tech, Culinary, Agriculture, Auto Collision Repair, Fire/EMT, Law Enforcement, Welder, Plumber, Pipefitter, and Construction.

Partners participants, who provided 36 different career booths. included: Air Handling Inc., Airstream, Area Energy and Electric Inc., Cargill, City of Sidney, Continental Express Inc., Copeland, Detailed Machining Inc., Edison State Community College, Ferguson Construction Company, Freshway, Honda, Kirk NationaLease, Lochard Inc., Ohio Living Dorothy Love, Panel Control Inc., Plastipak, Primary Eye Care, Shelby County, Sidney Body Car Star, Superior Aluminum Products, U.S. Bank, U.S. Military, Upper Valley Career Center, Wells Brothers Inc., Wilson Health and Wright State University.
