Many county candidates running unopposed in upcoming election

On the ballot for Shelby County, there are many candidates running for positions unopposed.

-Ohio 3rd District Court of Appeals: John R. Willamowski (R)

The position of Ohio’s 3rd District Court of Appeals chief justice has been taken by John R. Willamowski (R) since 2006 and has been re-elected in 2012 and 2018. He is running uncontested again this year. He has also served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives for five consecutive terms and had also practiced law in Northwest Ohio for 21 years.

-12th District State Senator: Susan Annette Manchester (R)

Susan Annette Manchester (R) is running uncontested for 12th District State Senator. She ran unopposed in a Republican primary in March. Manchester has been a Ohio state Representative for the 78th district since 2019. She has worked for Jim Jordan and as a field representative for the Trump campaign.

-Common Pleas Judge: Timothy S. Sell (R)

Currently the Shelby County Prosecutor, Timothy S. Sell (R) is running unopposed for the position of Common Pleas Judge. Sell has practiced law for over 30 years and has been the chief prosecutor for Shelby County since 2012. He ran unopposed in a Republican primary in March.

-Shelby County Treasurer: Steven Todd Lotz (R)

The Shelby County Treasurer position was filled in April by Steven Todd Lotz, who replaced John Coffield after his retirement in March. Lotz had 25 years with Peoples Federal Savings & Loan before beginning a position in the Treasurer’s office. He ran unopposed in a Republican primary in March.

-Coroner: A. David McDonald (R)

McDonald is running for reelection. He ran unopposed in a Republican primary in March.

-Engineer: Nicholas L. Miller (R)

Miller is currently the Shelby County Chief Deputy Engineer. He ran unopposed in a Republican Primary in March. He will succeed Engineer Robert Geuy.

-Recorder: Jodi L. Siegel (D)

This will be Siegel’s eighth campaign for this position. She ran unopposed in a Democratic primary in March.

-Sheriff: James R. Frye (R)

Frye is running for reelection. He was sworn in as Shelby County Sheriff in 2020. He has worked in the Sheriff’s Office for 15 years.

-Clerk of Courts: Michele Mumford (R)

Mumford is running for reelection. She ran unopposed in a Republican primary in March.

-Prosecuting Attorney: William R. Zimmerman (R)

Zimmerman is currently the assistant prosecutor and ran unopposed in a Republican primary in March. He will take over for Sell, who is running for Common Pleas Judge.

-County Commissioner: Bruce Alan Metz (R)

Former village administrator of Jackson Center, Metz is running uncontested in the general election. Replacing Bob Guillozet after his retirement, Metz stepped down from his position. He worked for the village of Jackson Center for over 40 years.

Metz handily won a Republican primary race in March.

-County Commissioner: Mack A. Knupp (R)

Mack Knupp has already been sworn in as one of three county commissioners after the early retirement of Tony Bornhorst. He narrowly won a Republican primary race in March.

Although many of these candidates are running uncontested, this does not limit the importance of voting this November.
