Shelby County voters to decide on local issues

Local ballot issues don’t garner as much attention as presidential and senate races, but they are important because the results have direct impact for the community.

City of Sidney

Issue 3: Section 2-15

This ballot issue is being brought to the community by the City of Sidney in regards to their council conduct. According to City Clerk Kari Egbert, the council was reviewing their standing rules and found a conflict under their Open Meetings Act under the Special Meetings section. Issue 3 is posing a rewrite of this act for the purpose of bringing Charter Section 2-15 up to code with their standing Open Meetings Act.

Clinton Township

Issue 8: Property Tax (Replacement – 1.8 mills, 5 years, commencing 2024, first due 2025)

Issue 8 is being placed on the ballot for Clinton Township to replace a former property tax that is proposing 1.8 mills for five years beginning in 2025. This property tax will go towards providing ambulance and emergency medical services.

Issue 9: Property Tax (Replacement – 2.45 mills, 5 years, commencing 2024, first due 2025)

Issue 9 is another property tax on the ballot for Clinton Township. This is a replacement property tax that poses 2.45 mills for five years beginning in 2025. This tax will be focused on getting and maintaining a fire apparatus, firefighting equipment and supplies, water supply, and pay for their firefighters.

Jackson Township

Issue 15: Property Tax (Renewal – 0.7 mills, 5 years, commencing 2025, first due 2026)

Jackson Township is proposing a renewal of a 0.7 mills property tax that will begin in 2026 and extend for five years. This tax will be focusing on providing ambulance and emergency medical services.

Issue 16: Property Tax (Renewal – 1.0 mills, 5 years, commencing 2025, first due 2026)

Issue 16 is the other renewal of a property tax placed on the ballot by Jackson Township. This ballot issue is asking for the renewal of a 5 year long, 1.0 mills property tax to begin in 2026. The focus will be on the fire department, for equipment, mechanical resuscitators, underwaters rescue and recovery equipment.

Orange Township

Issue 7: Property Tax (Additional – 1.1 mills, 5 years, commencing 2025, first due 2026)

Issue 7 is the only ballot issue from Orange Township and it’s a proposal of an additional property tax. The tax would be an additional 1.1 mills for five years and beginning in 2026 for the purpose of overall operating expenses.

Perry Township

Issue 14: Property Tax (Renewal and Increase – renew 1 mills, increase 0.5 mills final rate 1.5 mills, 5 years, commencing 2024, first due 2025)

Perry Township’s Issue 14 is a renewal and increase of a property tax. They want to renew 1 mills and increase 0.5 mills, leaving the final rate at 1.5 mills, for five years and beginning in 2025. This will be a tax that is focus on the fire department, providing funds to help with having and maintaining the equipment and building as well as pay for their firefighters.

Van Buren Township

Issue 5: Property Tax (Renewal – 0.5 mills, 5 years, commencing 2024, first due 2025)

Issue 5 is a proposed tax renewal of 0.5 mills for five years for Van Buren Township. This tax would begin in 2025 and would focus on providing ambulance and emergency medical services.

Washington Township

Issue 10: Property Tax (Additional – 0.3 mills, 5 years, commencing 2024, first due 2025)

Washington Township is proposing an additional property tax with Issue 10 on the ballot. This tax would be an additional 0.3 mills for five years beginning in 2025 and would be used for current expenses.

Anna Local School District

Issue 6: Property Tax (Renewal – 4 mills, 5 years, commencing 2025, first due 2026)

Issue 6 is raised by Anna Local School District and would be a renewal of a property tax. This tax renewal would be 4 mills for five years, first due in 2026. This property tax would provide for current operating expenses.

Graham Local School District

Issue 13: Income Tax (Additional -1 percent, 5 years, commencing Jan. 1 2025)

Issue 13 is proposed by Graham Local School District and is proposing an additional income tax of 1% for five years that would begin on Jan. 1, 2025. This would be focused on current expenses.

New Knoxville Local School District (overlaps: Auglaize and Shelby Counties)

Property Tax (Additional – 6.5 mills, a continuing period of time, commencing 2025, first due 2026)

New Knoxville Local School District is proposing an additional property tax of 6.5 mills for a continuing period that would begin in 2026. This would be focused on the general permanent improvements of the school district.

Houston Ambulance District

Issue 12: Property Tax (Renewal – 0.6 mills, 5 years, commencing 2025, first due 2026)

Houston Ambulance District has Issue 12 on the ballot which is a renewal of a property tax of 0.6 mills. This would go for five years, beginning in 2026, and would be focused on the overall maintenance of the emergency and rescue building and equipment as well as purchase an ambulance or emergency medical services operated by an emergency rescue department or company.

Perry Port Salem Rescue District

Issue 4: Property Tax (renewal – 1 mills, 5 years, commencing 2024, first due 2025)

Issue 4 is a renewal of a property tax for Perry Port Salem Rescue District. This renewal will be 1 mills for five years and will begin in 2025 for the purpose of providing ambulance and emergency medical services.

City of Sidney Ward 4-A

Issue 17- Local Option on Alcohol Sales

The Bridge is proposing their ability to sell beer, wine, mixed beverages, or spiritous liquor for carryout and have that extend to Sundays.
