125 YEARS

MONDAY, AUGUST 19, 1899

Ten dollars award will be paid for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the thief that recently stole plants from Graceland cemetery or that may hereafter be caught stealing them. By order of Cemetery Trustees.

100 YEARS

MONDAY, AUGUST 19, 1924

The handsome Peoples Building and Loan Association Building has never presented a more attractive appearance than at the completion of redecoration of the interior which has been in progress for the past several weeks. The walls are in Gothic design with oriental colorings, using old blue, rose and green in paneled and molded work.

75 YEARS

MONDAY, AUGUST 19, 1949

Sidney’s newest doctor is a native son. Dr. John H. Kerrigan has returned to his hometown to practice medicine, and he will formally open his new offices Aug. 24 at 111 East Court Street.

Victor Borge, famed pianist, concert star and humorist, will play a postponed engagement at Moonlight terrace, Sandy Beach Park, Russells Point on Sunday evening.

50 YEARS

MONDAY, AUGUST 19, 1974

The Longfellow Rhythmettes won a national title in a contest Sunday in Atlantic City, N.J. The 17 youngsters won the World Twirling Association’s National Juvenile Champion Showteam title.

25 YEARS

MONDAY, AUGUST 19, 1999

A health fair at Kroger supermarket in Sidney took place Wednesday after Planned Parenthood decided to pull out at the last hour. A Kroger manager requested Planned Parenthood to not participate after the store received numerous complaints from pro-life advocates.

PITTSBURGH – Alcoa, the largest aluminum maker, won its hostile bid for Reynolds Metals Inc., reaching an agreement to acquire the company for $4.4 billion in stock, the companies said today.

WASHINGTON (AP) – A U.S. military report predicts widespread “probable” or “likely” failures in important power and water systems for many of the nation’s cities because of the Year 2000 technology problem.
