125 YEARS

TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 1899

The popular Steinle Club house down the canal has been visited by over a thousand people so far this summer. Almost every day or evening parties make the trip on the pleasure boat “Gondola” for a few pleasant hours there. The rates are as follows: for thirty or less, $8 for the round trip.

100 YEARS

TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 1924

Members of the Ku Klux Klan held a meeting Monday night in an open field northeast of Sidney on the Murphy pike. The speakers’ stand was a flat top wagon lighted by electricity, a large lighted electric cross being the decoration. After the speaking quite a number of new members were taken into the organization.

75 YEARS

TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 1949

Coach Tom Pierson’s Sidney high school Yellow Jackets launched drills for their 1949 football campaign. A total of 50 candidates engaged in the opening workout which was more or less confined to “loosening up” exercises.

Dr. Richard H. Breece is Jackson Center’s new doctor. The community has been without the services of a physician since Dr. C.M. Gillespie left town several months ago.

50 YEARS

TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 1974

LOCKINGTON – About 80 Lockington area residents crammed the ancient brick Washington Township House last night to make clear to the zoning board their feelings about 200 acres of land to accommodate a Spring Creek Gravel Co. proposal for a gravel mining operation. Last night’s protests revolved around three issues: fear that the mining operation will endanger the area’s water supply, fear that the gravel trucks moving in and out of the area will create a safety hazard, and reluctance to have a “scenic, historical area” disfigured.

25 YEARS

TUESDAY, AUGUST 20, 1999

When two Shelby County residents attended chiropractic college together, the seed was planted for a local practice to some day be opened. Dr. Anthony “Tony” Eshleman of Anna and Dr. Bryan Olding of Sidney opened the Shelby Chiropractic Health Center at 679 N. Vandemark Road on Aug 9.
