SIDNEY — The Sidney Yellow Jackets boys soccer team took down the Bellefontaine Chieftains 5-0 at Sidney High School on Wednesday.

Sidney got the scoring started early when Jaden Danklefsen scored on a breakaway at 27:27 in the first half. Danklefsen was then swiftly assisted to another goal with a pass from Youssouf Dia to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead with 26:45 to play in the first.

Jackson Riley made a great shot on goal that was swatted away by the Bellefontaine keeper at 18:15.

Both teams entered a stalemate for the rest of the half. Sidney helped a great deal by keeper Samuel Baldauf’s excellent defense.

“We’ve got to attack the ball more,” Yellow Jackets head coach Jamie Fridley said. “The intermediate balls, we’re slagging. We’ll get back out on the practice field tomorrow and start working on it.”

In the second half, Danklefsen kept the score moving with another goal. This time assisted by Zac Ambos with 26:26 in the second half to play.

Shortly after his hat trick goal, Danklefsen went down with a cramp and didn’t return to the field.

With Danklefsen off the field, Dia stepped up, first scoring on a breakaway with 19:46 left to play to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 lead. Then scoring his second of the game with 15:36 to play to cap off the game at 5-0. The win made Sidney 2-0 on the year.

“Outside of the goals,” Fridley said. “I was proud to see us making runs up. That’s what we’re supposed to do against Bellefontaine.”
