Football roundup: Anna blasts Indian Lake, Lehman Catholic loses opener

LEWISTOWN — Anna dominated Indian Lake 37-0 in a season opener on the road on Friday.

The Rockets had 370 yards of offense and held the Lakers to 57.

Zach Osborn scored the first touchdown of the game on a short run at the end of the first and added a second rushing touchdown in the second to give Anna a 14-0 lead.

A safety on Indian Lake followed by a rushing touchdown from quarterback Alex Shappie gave the Rockets a 23-0 lead going into the half.

Noah Aufderhaar nabbed a touchdown pass from Shappie in the third to give Anna a 30-0 lead and the Rockets night was capped off by a 4-yard rushing touchdown from Osborn.

Shappie completed 11-of-16 passes for 157 yards with two touchdowns. Osborn ran for 128 yards and two TDs on 17 carries and caught five passes for 60 yards with one TD. Auferdhaar caught three passes for 52 yards with one TD. Aaron Shappie ran for 52 yards on eight carries.

Anna has its home opener on Friday where it will take on Brookville at 7 p.m.

Lehman Catholic can’t keep up with Delphos St. John’s

The Lehman Catholic Cavaliers fell to Delphos St. John’s 54-27 on Friday in Delphos.

The Cavaliers were down 7-0 early after a touchdown by the Blue Jays with 11:11 on the clock in the first, but fought back to score a touchdown of their own, making the score 7-6.

Delphos responded by taking Lehman’s kickoff back for a touchdown to extend its lead to 13-6.

Later in the first, the Blue Jays scored again, ending the first quarter with a score of 20-6.

It only took nine seconds for Delphos to score in the second, 27-6. Two more Blue Jays touchdowns before the half made the score at the halfway point 40-6.

The Cavaliers showed some signs of life in the third, scoring a touchdown and making the score 40-13. Lehman added another touchdown in the third to cut the lead to 40-20.

Another Delphos touchdown early in the fourth made the game 47-20 before another Cavalier touchdown brought the lead back to just 20.

The Blue Jays added the final touchdown of the game in the fourth for a final score of 54-27.

Lehman Catholic is back on the gridiron on Friday where it will travel to take on South Charleston Southestern at 7 p.m.
