JACKSON CENTER — The Jackson Center Tigers (4-2-0, 1-0-0) boys soccer team took a 4-1 victory over the Lehman Catholic Cavaliers (3-3-0, 0-1-0) at Jackson Center on Tuesday in a nonconference matchup.

The Cavaliers were first to score in the game when sophomore Colt Courtad snuck a ball past Tigers keeper Carter Klopfenstein to give Lehman an early 1-0 lead with 38:30 to play in the first.

“We’re doing a lot of things that we want to do,” Cavaliers head coach Eric Courtad said. “We’re moving and passing the ball, we just need to clean a couple of stupid fouls up. We have to be smarter in the box and control the midfield a little bit better, which we’ve been doing until today.”

Jackson Center was able to battle back before the half, getting goals from sophomore Will Ricks and later senior Lucas Heitkamp to take a 2-1 lead into the second 40-minutes.

“We came out physically and won 50/50 balls,” Heitkamp said. “That put us in a good position. Even though they played those long balls, we had a chance to stop them with 50/50’s.

“We need to find our feet and our combinations that we did, our attacking third was a lot better than previous games that we’ve had. If we can build off of that, it would be very nice.”

The Tigers kept the offense going in the second half with Heitkamp’s second goal of the game off of a penalty kick at 24:39 to play in the match extending Jackson Centers’ lead to 3-1.

Junior Preston Serr got in on the fun with a goal of his own with 5:19 on the clock in the second half to put the nail in the coffin for Lehman.

Lehman Catholic beat Miami East 2-1 in a Three Rivers Conference match on Thursday. The squad is scheduled to host Newton on Saturday afternoon.

Jackson Center lost 2-0 to Spencerville on Thursday. The squad is scheduled to travel to West Liberty-Salem on Monday.
