SIDNEY — On a beautiful Tuesday at the Shelby Oaks Golf Club, 14 area teams battled in an 18-hole tournament to determine District III sectional champions and to find out which teams and individuals advanced to districts.

The Botkins Trojans took an eight stroke victory over the rest of the field with their team score of 310. Their top scores were Ross Dietz (64, -8 and two strokes from a course record), Carson Heuker (77), Treg Meyer (84) and Will Monnin (85).

“Today we brought everything together,” Botkins head coach Brett Meyer said. “We played really strong until a couple weeks ago, but I knew if we could stick together we could play really well.

“Ross shoots a 64 so that’s a good start and Carson came in with his 77 and our freshmen kept it together for the entire round today. I’mm very happy with our outcome today.”

The Russia Raiders finished in second place in the contest with their score of 318. The Raiders were led by Leo Counts (75), Vince Borchers (78), Braylon Cordonnier (80) and Michael Voisard (85).

Fort Loramie finished five strokes behind Russia with its score of 323. It was led by Beau Shafer (71 -1), Jack Cotner (81), Wade Holthaus (84) and Chase Bornhorst (87).

“This score is really good for us,” Fort Loramie head coach Brad Turner said. “Coming in today, I thought we were one of the top five teams and I had us on the bubble. This was a good sectional, when Lehman can’t get in with the score they had it’s a good sign of how talented everyone is.

“We had contributions from everyone and everybody got on a pretty good roll at some point in the day. I’m thrilled about getting out of the sectional.”

In the team competition, Fort Recovery was able to snag fourth place with a 327.

The Lehman Catholic Cavaliers were edged out of the top five with their score of 335. Junior Henry Peterson advanced to districts as an individual with his score of 76 while Jack Williams was able to force a playoff for the last individual spot with a 78.

The Jackson Center Tigers came to the clubhouse with a 336 which was good for sixth place in the event. Senior Blake Noble forced his way to districts with a 76 and junior Tristan Woolley was second on the team with his 85.

Huston was unable to send anyone to the next round with their team score of 339, good for a seventh place finish. The Wildcats were led by Tanner Voisard (79) and Luke Crim (86).

The Fairlawn Jets finished tied for 10th place with Triad, coming in with a team score of 383. The Jets were led by Garret Maddy (90) and Maddox Abke (91).

The Division III district tournament is scheduled for Monday, Sept 30th at Pipstone golf club in Miamisburg at 9 a.m.
