H.P. Bretti, a member of the British Parliament, was registered at the Florentine hotel yesterday.

LEXINGTON, KY – The Kentucky Distilleries and Warehouse company has made a complete list of its distilleries and the whisky that is to be made by each of them during the coming distilling season. The total number of gallons to be made is 9,000,000.

100 Years

Oct. 8, 1924

The seed corn situation in Shelby county will be serious for the 1925 crop unless care is taken this fall to select and properly store corn for seed. If you will need seed, call the farm bureau office and inquire where you can secure it. Better get it this fall and dry it for yourself.

There is to be a physician on call at all times for Sidney and Shelby county. This announcement means when the physicians’ offices of the city and county are closed, anyone having an emergency medical need may call Wilson Memorial Hospital, 1829-1, and they will be given the name of a physician on call and the telephone number where he may be reached.

An increased number of fire calls due to the burning of leaves has caused unnecessary runs in the past week by the Sidney fire department, Elmer Weipert, fire chief, said today. The chief warned that persons violating the city ordinance prohibiting burning of trash will be cited into court.

The First Presbyterian Sunday school class taught by Miss Ida M. Hall is honoring her by designating a Sunday school room as the Ida M. Hall room. She has taught Sunday school for more than 40 years and was a Sidney High teacher for 23 years.

Oct. 8, 1974

Griffis Jenkins, a former Sidney councilman, was appointed by that body Monday to fill a more than two-month vacancy on the council created by the resignation of at-large councilman Leonard Crosley II. Jenkins is assistant administrator of Dorothy Love Retirement Home.

A measure to hike rates of Warner Cable TV by $1.75 per month received final approval by Sidney City Council this week, over one negative vote cast by Gary Van Fossen.

25 Years

PHOTO – Checking the first motorcycle engine produced at the Anna plant of Honda Manufacturing Inc. in 1985 are Jackson Center residents Brenda Barker and John Homan. Honda has announced plans to move the motorcycle engine production to the company’s Marysville plant.

The Ohio State Trappers Association will hold an Advanced Trapper Field Day on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dennis Helman’s D&L Fur and Root Co. Topics to be covered include BMP’s, snares, trap preparation, and fur handling. There will be demonstrations of coyote trapping, coon snaring, general water trapping and beaver trapping.
