Cross country: Fort Loramie girls, Botkins boys win SCAL titles

BOTKINS — The Botkins Trojans hosted the Shelby County Athletic League cross country championship meet on Saturday at Botkins Community Park.

Fort Loramie took first place in the girls race with its team score of 21. Its fastest runners were Ariel Heitkamp (first overall, 19:20.5), Harley Eilerman (second, 20:12.9), Lauren Moore (third, 20:13.9), Carly Holthaus (seventh, 20:39.4) and Liza Poeppelman (eighth 20:42).

The Trojans took second as a team finishing with a 53. They were led by Brylie Greve (sixth overall, 20:38.3), Bella Bucio (ninth, 20:45.6), Addison Blindauer (10th, 20:51.7), Grace Gutman (11th, 21:04.5) and Amelia Greve (21st, 22:32.1).

The Anna Rockets finished in third with their score of 81. Their fastest runners were Serenity Williamson (fourth overall, 20:19.5), Sheridan Williamson (18th, 22:01.9), Melanie Kranenburg (20th, 22:15), Rachel Harshbarger (26th, 23:03.7) and Maggie Bensman (35th, 24:46).

Russia placed fourth, scoring 98. The top Raiders in the race were Faith York (13th overall, 21:22.2), Annabelle Armstrong (22nd 22:47.6), Madison Schulte (24th, 22:51.5), Grace Caldwell (29th, 23:32.2) and Maci Armstrong (31st, 23:50.7).

The Houston Wildcats scored a 124 and placed fifth. Their fastest runners were Ava Mowery (fifth overall, 20:34.2), Mekayla Pleiman (36th, 24:46.1), Gabriella Harding (41st, 25:48.9), Kaelyn Richardson (51st, 28:06.1) and Elizabeth Fogt (58th, 30:20.3).

Fairlawn did not have enough runners for a team score but was led by Nevaeh Burt (15th overall, 21:49.4), Cassie Heath (19th, 22:14.7), Riley Longmire (34th, 24:42.2) and Alli Orsborne (50th , 27:44.7).

On the boys side of things, Botkins took first place with a 27 team score. Its fastest were Carson Brown (first overall, 16:12.1), Collin Doseck (fifth, 17:17.6), Lucas Arnold (sixth, 17:21.6), Wesley Manger (seventh, 17:27.6) and Ryan Koenig (eighth, 17:29.2).

Russia placed second, finishing with a 48 and was led by Jacob Schmitmeyer (second overall, 16:39.6), Samuel Philpot (fourth, 16:51.3), Evan Smith (11th, 17:37.5), Keagan Baldridge (15th, 18:00.3) and Quinn Hoying (19th, 18:06.6).

Anna took third with a 66. Top runners for the Rockets were Titus Young (third overall, 16:43.2), Blake Bixler (10th, 17:32.6), Kyle Edelmann (14th, 17:57.7), Gerran Nottage (18th, 18:06) and Tyler Maurer (26th, 18:14.7).

Fort Loramie scored a 96 and placed fourth. Its best times were Dj Barhorst (12th overall, 17:54.9), Landen Drees (17th, 18:03.8), Ethan Koester (20th, 18:08), Isaac Holthaus (24th, 18:13.4) and Sean Bornhorst (30th, 18:39.1).

The Jackson Center Tigers placed fifth and finished with a team score of 145. Their fastest runners were Sean Wren (27th overall, 18:22.1), Owen Willoby (29th, 18:35.5), Braylon Elmore (32nd, 18:43.1), Eli Prenger (33rd 18:49.4) and Xander Gayer (48th, 20:12.1).

The Wildcats took sixth with a 154. Their best times were Dakari Crawford (16th overall, 18:01.8), Dylan Shaffer (35th, 18:59.7), Weston Hoover (36th, 19:03), Konner Pleiman (46th, 19:56.7) and Hudson Mowery (71st, 22:15.1).

Fairlawn again didn’t have enough runners for a team score but had runners CJ Lessing (ninth overall, 17:31), Lucas Longmire (52nd, 20:34.1) and Dalton Davis (69th, 22:00.4).
