Boys golf: Botkins’ Dietz finishes 2nd in D-III state tourney

SUNBURY — Botkins senior golfer Ross Dietz ended his career with a second-place finish in the Division III state boys golf tournament over the weekend at NorthStar Golf Club.

Dietz shot a 74 on Friday and a 1-under par 71 on Saturday to finish with a 145 for the two rounds, eight strokes behind first-place Cameron Phillips from Valley and two strokes ahead of the third-place finisher.

With his runner-up finish, he also earned a spot on first team all-Ohio in Div. III (the top seven finishers earn first team all-state honors). He’s the first golfer in program history to earn a runner-up finish and first team all-Ohio recognition.

Minster qualified as a team as and finished eighth with a 662 team score; the squad shot 334 on Friday and 328 on Saturday.

Bryce Prenger shot a 74-78-152 and was a second team all-Ohio selection. Louis Magoto shot an 82-75-157, Max Voisard shot an 86-89-175 and Andrew Wiss shot a 92-86-178.
