Girls basketball: Russia beats Botkins 47-27 for district final berth
SIDNEY — Russia and Botkins met in a district semifinal for the second consecutive year and faced off for the sixth time in the last two seasons in a Division IV district semifinal on Monday at Sidney High School.

SIDNEY — Since 1857, the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services has provided excellent service to the community. Their professional staff is the backbone and foundation of this service. In 2022, Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services returned to their full, authorized staffing (11 personnel per shift). This brings the department’s current roster to 38 uniformed personnel and one civilian administrative assistant. The department last boasted these numbers in early 2009 as the Great Recession forced staffing reductions through attrition. As the department has returned to full staffing, the focus is on the appropriate staffing models for the future of the community.
Francis Manufacturing Company fined by OSHA
RUSSIA – The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently concluded an investigation at Francis Manufacturing Company in Russia and issued a fine after an incident that resulted in an employee’s death on June 1, 2022.

Trio to join Légion d’honneur
RUSSIA — The village of Russia will welcome James E. Pleiman, Thomas V. Francis and Edward L. Borchers into the Légion d’honneur during the program’s inaugural ceremony on Sunday, March 12, at 1 p.m. The ceremony – which is open to the public – will be held inside Clair C. Naveau Gymnasium at Russia Local School.
Grand jury hands down indictments
SIDNEY — The Shelby County grand jury issued indictments for domestic violence, forgery, and trafficking in drugs, among other charges, during its session on Thursday, Feb. 16.
