Botkins BOE hires staff during October meeting

BOTKINS — At the October regular meeting of the Botkins Board of Education, the board approved the hiring of several employees.

The board hired Sarah Simmons, Michael Martin, and Kaleb Page as substitutes teachers for the 2016-17 school year at the rate of $90 per day.

They hired the following extracurricular positions for the 2016-17 school year:

• Dennis Martin, JV girls basketball coach

• Ryan Piche, 8th grade girls basketball coach

• Samantha Riffel, assistant softball coach

• Amy Landis, tutor

They also approved the following volunteers:

• Jill Haywood, cafeteria

• Leah Schmerge, junior high girls basketball

• Logan Pitts, junior high/high school girls basketball

The board hired Bryan Trego as the Athletic Aide for the 2016-17 school year at an hourly rate of $19.50 and approved continuing contracts for Laura Mack and Ashlee Zimpfer. They approved the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center service agreements for Heather Buehler as an Educational Aide and Sandra Ocasio as an ESL teacher.

Also at the meeting the board accepted the donation of $2,516 from Barb Roberts for the Jeff Roberts Scholarship Fund and $1,700 from the Botkins Volleyball for the Cara Meyer Scholarship Fund.

The board adopted commendations for Josh Miller as a district qualifier, and the Boys Soccer Team as the 2016 WOSL Champions.

In financial business the board approved the 5-year forecast for the Botkins Local School District as presented and approved all activity accounts for the current school year.

They updated a previous motion from the August regular board meeting to state approval of a purchase order from Wells Brothers in the amount of $11,012.40 to install the ADA compliance walkway, parking and driveway.

The board approved the Treasurer’s report by fund, the Investment report, and cash balance report as presented. They also amended the Certificate of Estimated Resources and modify appropriations as presented.

In committee reports it was noted Night at the Races will be held Jan. 28, 2017, and the Balldrop/Richie Gutman Award will be held Feb. 3, 2017.

The board pushed back the time of the Nov. 9 Board of Education meeting to 7:30 because of parent/teacher conferences.
