SIDNEY — Educators in the Sidney City Schools District were honored Monday during the Board of Education meeting for their dedication to the district’s students.

American Education Week, said Superintendent John Scheu, was Nov. 13-18. The week was first started in 1921.

“One of our greatest strengths is our teachers and support staff,” said Scheu.

The district’s 420 employees should recognized all year long, not just during American Education Week.

The board approved the transfer of funds from the general fund to two other funds. The first transfer is for $350,000 from the general fund to the permanent improvement fund. The funds will be used for projects this fiscal year.

The second transfer, $690,103.13, was from the general fund to the bond retirement fund. Those funds were used to pay off the bond which constructed the board of education building. The building is now free and clear of all debt.

The retirement of Sue Deal, Longfellow Elementary School aide, was accepted effective June 30, 2017. She has spent her entire career — 22 years — as an aide at Longfellow School.

Amanda Stout and Lori Lively were hired as classified substitutes on a one-year, as-needed basis. they will be paid $11.01 per hour.

Two supplemental contracts were awarded. Taylor Adami was given a contract as auditorium supervisor at $1,277. Adami works with all outside performances held at the school.

Todd Bridges was given a supplemental as pep band director. He will be paid $456.

The board adopted new and revised policies for the district. Two bylaws — one dealing with meetings and the second with technology privacy — were tabled.

Board member Bob Smith reviewed House and Senate Bills which concern education in the state.

The board held at executive session to consider the evaluation of an official of the district. No action was taken.

The board’s next meeting will be Monday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. at the board office. The meeting will be a work session.
