Anna boys dominate invitational

Anna was the dominant boys team Saturday in the annual Sidney Cross Country Invitational, held at the high school.

The Rockets finished with a near shutout, totaling just 18 points and having six runners finish in the top 10, including the first three to cross the line.

Sidney was a distant second with 50 and Fairlawn was fourth out of eight teams with 117.

Anna’s Lucas Huber won the race in 16:46.1, and was followed across the line by Bradley Axe. Joel Gaier was third, Matthew Burden fifth, Kyle Christman seventh and Dylan Berner ninth.

Sidney’s Gavin Bockrath was fourth and teammate Eli Straman eighth.

Fairlawn was led by Nick Brautigam, who was 13th.

• There were just four schools with enough for a full girls team, and Covington was the winner with 19 points.

Sidney, which had just four girls running, was led by freshman Ana Adams, second in 19:58.8. She and race winner Paige Boehringer both finished over a minute ahead of the rest of the field.

Sidney’s Mariana Kellner also made the top 10, placing ninth in 22:56.6. She was followed by New Knoxville’s top runner, Jacklyn Leffell, in 10th.

Junior high

The Anna junior high girls ran well, finishing first with 22 points and putting four runners in the top 10.

Breann Reaman won the race in 12:4.1, and teammate Hope Bixler was second in 13:05.9. Kaylie Kipp was fifth in 13:24.6 and Makenzie Cole sixth in 13:28.7.

New Knoxville’s Savannah Grilliot placed third in 13:11.8, Fairlawn’s Myla Cox was fourth in 13:24.2, Sidney’s Montana Stephens was eighth in 13:46.9 and New Knoxville’s Joelle DeLisle was ninth in 14 minutes even.

Rounding out the top five for Anna was Kayli Brewer in 11th place in 14:14.2. Anna’s Madison Brewer placed 12th.

• Sidney was second behind Piqua in the junior high boys race. Piqua had 51 and Sidney 64.

Aidan Tangeman of Sidney won the race in 11:37.2 and teammate Braden Guinther was fourth in 11:46.6.

New Knoxville’s Zachary Privette was sixth in 12:18.2, and Anna’s Reece Smith was eighth in 12:19.6.
