VERSAILLES — Behind senior Emily Knouff’s 75, the Fort Loramie girls golf team finished third in the Division 2 Girls Sectional Tournament Wednesday at rainy Stillwater Valley Golf Course in Versailles, thereby earning a trip to the district tournament next week.

Fort Loramie shot a 396 to finish behind first-place Versailles (373) and runner-up Bellefontaine (394). The top four teams advanced and grabbing the fourth spot was Arcanum with 419.

Knouff’s 75 was second-best in the tournament behind the 72 of medalist Sarah Willis of Eaton.

Fort Loramie also got a 98 from Megan Koppin, 108 from Riley Middendorf, and 115 from Amy Eilerman.

Versailles was led by senior Lauren Heitkamp, who shot an 89. Lauren Dunham added a 92, Jorja Pothast 94 and Morgan Heitkamp 98 for the 373 total.

In addition to the top four teams advancing, the top four individuals not on a qualifying team also advanced, and grabbing the fourth qualifying spot was Riverside High School sophomore Dana Jones, who finished with a 95.

They will all play at Pipestone in Miamisburg next Wednesday in the district, from which the top three teams and the top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the state tournament.

Russia’s Maddie Borchers just missed out on qualifying, shooting a 96.

Riverside was eighth overall with a 456, and Russia was 12th with a 487.

D-2 at Celina

CELINA — The Minster girls golf team finished third in the Division 2 Sectional held at Fox’s Den in Celina Tuesday.

Only the top three teams advanced to the district.

St. Henry was first with a 379, Lincolnview second with a 386, and Minster was third with a 390.

The Lady Wildcats will compete in the district on Monday at Sycamore Springs in Findlay, hoping to finish in the top three and earn a berth in the state tournament.

Minster was led by junior Hannah Koenig, who shot an 87 Wednesday. Sarah Huwer added a 98, Taylor Homan 99 and Lisa Borges 106.

New Bremen was seventh with a 457 and led by Caylie Hall’s 110 and a 113 by Marcella Travis.

Marion Local placed ninth with a 477 and was led by Marah Kremer with 116 and Chloe Nagel with 117.

Division 2 boys

The Versailles boys golf team was playing in the D-2 sectional at Pipestone in Miamisburg Wednesday whe play was suspended due to the weather.

The tournament will resume today.
