Staff report

Rain interfered with the final day of golf for the Shelby Oaks Ladies League Wednesday, but not with the final luncheon, which included the presentation of awards for the season.

The luncheon included 26 members and was catered by The Spot.

Joyce Jones led the meeting, then passed the role of president to Jeannie Bosslet for the 2017 year.

A number of items were discussed. One was the donation of a tree to the golf course, and also the league’s benefit day which resulted in gifts for two deserving people.

Also discussed were ideas for encouraging more ladies to join the league for Wednesday morning golf and the companionship of the group.

Hand-made awards by Lu Ann Fultz were given to Ellen Joslin for four birdies, Karen Dickman for two birdies and Ann Engle, Pris Reier, Jeannie Thompson, Linda DeVelvis, Judy Bemus, Gretchen Ehler, Sandy Weaver, Mary Lou Berning, Barb Rogers, Deb Goffena, Marcia Shaffer and Nettie Dunlap, all for recording one birdie.

Perfect attendance certificates were presented to Fultz and Sandy Weaver, and the top money winner, Trish Hoying, was also recognized.

The day ended with the giving of door prizes, mums, to those who had their names drawn.

The 2017 season will begin at the Oaks on May 3.
