Staff report

The bowling season at Bel-Mar Lanes got off to an amazing start recently, with a new house record being set.

Dustin “DJ” Johnson was subbing in the Friday Nighters League recently when he put together an impressive series, one that is now the new standard at the local lanes.

He started out with his fifth sanctioned 300 game, then followed that up with games of 266 and 290 for his fifth sanctioned 800 series. The 856, his personal best, broke the existing house record of 845, set just last year by Joe Green.

It was also the first 300 game and first 800 series bowled on Bel-Mar Lanes’ new synthetic lanes installed over the summer.

Meanwhile, Stephen Schipper, also subbing, in the Wednesday Night Industrial League, fell one pin short of perfection.

He had 11 strikes in a row, but left a solid 10-pin on his final ball to finish with a 299.

Bel-Mar also added new ball returns, masking units, foul lights and 42-inch flat-screen monitors this year.
