The Sidney High bowling teams competed in the Baker Bash in Fairborn on Martin Luther King Day Monday, and both the boys and girls teams reached the round of eight for match play.

Each team bowled 10 baker games and tried to qualify for match play.

They boys qualified fourth and drew No. 5 seed Wayne in the first round of match play.

In the best two-out-of-three baker games, Wayne won the first game, Sidney came back and won the second, and then Wayne took the third game to eliminate the Jackets.

“Overall, I thought we did well today as a team,” said Sidney coach Trent Knoop. “We didn’t have anyone who was locked all day, but everyone was able to contribute for a solid day.”

The Sidney girls qualified eighth and drew top-seeded Beavercreek in match play. The Lady Jackets lost both games.

“It’s tough to beat the Creek girls in their own house,” said Knoop. “I thought the girls did well. They got off to a struggle the first few baker games, but they were gritty and battled back to obtain the last spot for match play. The girls are showing vast improvement since the beginning of the season.”
