CINCINNATI (AP) — The sister of a 2-year-old Cincinnati girl who died of starvation and blunt-force injury has testified that the toddler’s father held the girl by the legs and swung her into a wall.
Glenara Bates died in March 2015. Authorities say she was beaten and had belt and bite marks, among other injuries.
Her parents have pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and child endangerment charges. They rejected proposed plea deals.
Glenara’s 10-year-old sister testified about the abuse of her sibling during trial Wednesday for Glenara’s father, 34-year-old Glen Bates.
He could face the death penalty if convicted.
His attorneys have sought to point blame at his ex-girlfriend, Glenara’s mother, arguing that she was around the children more but had mental health problems and didn’t provide proper child care.
