CLEVELAND (AP) — Police say an investigation is underway after the head of Cleveland’s police union wore his dress uniform to a rally for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
A police spokeswoman tells Cleveland.com (http://bit.ly/2e7cruz ) the investigation into Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Steve Loomis is being handled internally.
Loomis has said friends invited him to an Aug. 22 rally in Akron.
Loomis said Wednesday he was off-duty at the time and drove his personal car to the event. He says he attended in his official capacity as the union’s head.
The union voted last month to publicly endorse Trump for president.
Loomis declined to comment Tuesday on whether the union would continue supporting Trump after a 2005 video surfaced that captures him making lewd and sexually charged comments about women.
