FREMONT, Ohio (AP) — A jailed Ohio sheriff who denied stealing prescription drugs and misusing office funds is due for his next court appearance Tuesday.
Sandusky County Sheriff Kyle Overmyer was scheduled for a change of plea hearing Monday in Fremont, but the appearance was delayed and re-listed as a pretrial hearing.
Overmyer pleaded not guilty in August to six felony charges in a 43-count indictment. It’s not clear if he plans to change his not-guilty plea, and attorneys in the case can’t discuss it because they’re under a gag order.
The two-term sheriff was charged with stealing medications from drug disposal boxes, deceiving doctors into giving him painkillers and misusing department funds.
Overmyer has said the investigation was politically motivated.
He has kept his title while suspended but recently lost his re-election bid.
